Effective Engaging About Us Pages

Mideastyouth.com about us page

Who says About Us pages need to be boring?  Who says they need to be full of corporate speak and cliche filled drivel talking about "Providing cutting edge turnkey solutions for our clients" and "Friendly knowledgeable service" and "our mission is……."

Mideastyouth.com uses comics on their About Us page to communicate to a young audience who doesn't want to read lots of boring text.

How else could you convey your story on your About Us page?

On TheSoccerMomMyth.com, Michele and I tell use favorite quotes and videos to to help tell our story.

MiddleSister Wines uses fun bios and life philosophy to spice up their About Us page.

Balsamiq keeps it short and sweet with some great photos and a few clear statements about who they are.  It also has a wonderful human sound to it.

This isn't an About Us Page, but I think this use of pictures and a whiteboard would be a fabulous way to share information on an About Us page.

  6. I always make it a point to check the “About Us” page of a site to check if who they are and what we can expect from them. So I think it’s not that boring but some sites need some improvement 🙂

  7. That was descriptive. Thanks for showing how valuable “about us” page is. Honestly, I’ve been handling sites but never give importance on that page.

I’ve used cartoons a lot on my site for women leaders. We use series called “Jurdy”. I think women actually respond better to humor. Men are more serious. On the downside, you can’t keep the same cartoon up forever or it becomes a negative

  10. Some great ideas… I think for most of us an about page is a lazy biography we’ve added not expecting anyone to actually click the link.

Great post, I had never considered taking an approach outside of the norm for about us pages, but you have inspired me to try something new on the next page I design

Agreed! “about us” pages are not given the attention they deserve. Plus since you’re usually not trying to rank for an about but SEO wise, you might as well make it interesting for your users.

  18. There really is no one right way to write an About Us page. What may work for one organization may not work for another. However, graphics play a big role in transferring information across the medium of sight better than a 1000 words would.

This NYCJEW writes-A tlltoay terrifically accurate observation and frustration with the dating scene.1. Jewish men only date really really skinny girls2. They like Asian women (see 1)3. They LURVE blonds that are of the non-US variety4. They have serious problems with Momma control5. They want to be the breadwinner and do not like independent equally outspoken women.6. They really hate being jewish and try to distance themselves in their 20s, and do everything they can to date a non-jew7. If the have money they hide it and only will date someone who has money herself.8. So many fool around with the NJ’s and find themselves alone at 45 still trying to get that girl in her 20s who couldn’t care less.9. They do not date age appropriately.10. OK THE BIG ONE- IF YOU WANT A JEWISH MAN to MARRY, get one who does not live in any major city-this way, there will not be temptation everywhere, and the women will actually look like women (it is what he is used to)
